The Consumer’s Choice Pork Awards were established in 2001 to honor retail products that score high on taste, product appeal, fit-to-lifestyle trends, and purchase intent. Designed to showcase pork products that give The Other White Meat a whole new flavor, five outstanding examples were recognized this year.

What was the goal? To honor pork products introduced in the past year, which demonstrate industry innovation while enhancing demand.

Finding the Finest. In the search for truly innovative ideas, anyone over the age of 18 – consumers, industry representatives, producers, manufacturers – could nominate a pork product that they felt demonstrated innovation within the pork producing industry.

How It Worked. Entries were reviewed and after an initial screening by industry professionals, 10 finalists were scrutinized by a consumer panel who selected five products to receive the highest distinction -- the golden fork.

And the Winner Is... Manufacturers of this year’s winning products were awarded Consumer’s Choice Pork Awards golden fork trophy and the right to use the official Consumer’s Choice Pork Awards winner’s seal on their packaging.

The Winning Products Are:

• Johnsonville® Heat and Serve Mild Italian Sausage
  This sausage has a well-balanced spicy kick in an easy-to-prepare microwavable package. Its grilled appearance and overall versatility is appealing to consumers. Its flexible serving size, recloseable top and collapsible packaging makes it an excellent fit with lifestyles
   
• Iowa Quality Meats Prime Rib Roast
  A fresh pork product boasting flavor and tenderness creates the perfect all-family meal with less perceived bother than other roasts. This product has great eye appeal with consumers commenting on its heartiness and homemade appearance. This product offers flexibility to create quick, satisfying dinners during the weekday, or more formal events on the weekends.
   
• Tyson® Vegetables and Pork Butt Roast
  This convenient kit makes it a great fit for consumers’ lifestyles. It allows individuals to create great-tasting, homemade meals with ease. The inclusion of vegetables in this mixture with meat and seasonings was met with positive comments.
   
• Hormel® Southwestern Pork Carnitas
  Bringing diversity and casualness to mealtime, this pork product with its bits of real tomato gives consumers a sense of freshness and variety in texture. Its pleasing spicy flavor and tender bite make it a winner with consumers. Judges commented on the product’s “real” Mexican/Southwestern flavor while being mild enough for the entire family.
   
• Hormel® Pork Chops and Gravy
  This product has homemade appeal with its special gravy and tender and tasty pork, and the convenience consumers want with an all-in-one bag and box package. The mixture of lean, thin meat combined with hearty, delicious gravy gives consumers a savory taste experience.
